Day 1—Starting a new daily devotional

You have to choose every single day to pick up your cross and labor for Him.  Some days it will seem easy and the cross light.  Other days it will be the hardest thing you have to do, a heavy burden that seems impossible to bear.  But remember that if you are carrying your cross right there on your shoulders, the weight touching you with no space between you and it, then Jesus is there touching you too.  And with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).  The closer you stay to Him and to His will, the more readily and quickly available God’s help is to you because there is no distance for either of you to cover to get to His helping hands.  His word says he is a “very present help in trouble” (Psalms 46:1), not a kind of present help or sometimes present help but a VERY present help.  This means he is not only VERY helpful (like duh!), but also very ready, very present, very available at ALL times to help you.  That is a huge comfort to me!  On days when my cross seems so heavy I can barely get it to my shoulders (like today), I have to remind myself that God is doing more lifting than I am and that if I struggle under my burdens, I must focus on the positives, grit my teeth, bear my load, and keep working for Him.  Not only is this my duty, but my blessing also (even when it is hard) ((Luke 9:23) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.)  So, today, on a day when I feel smushed by the weight of my negatives, I choose to see at least one positive, if not more.  And, I will continue to find a daily positive or silver lining every single day until I focus on the positives more than the negatives!  I may struggle to find those positives, but I will not stop trying until I succeed.  Today’s positive:  God is with me!  Right here, right now, helping me be patient and understanding, and uplifting me from my sadness and frustration.  (What a positive positive!)

I’m glad you shared this! I really needed that reminder about God being a very present help, especially when things get hard!
