God gave me the idea for a book a long time ago. I started writing it and have worked on it very slowly for years now. When my medical transcriptionist work disappeared at the end of July, I took it as a sign that it was time for me to write, and write seriously. I have been working on my book steadily for over a week now and it feels SO good. I pray before I write, and God always gives me the words to write. But, this morning I woke up full of self-doubt. What if when I finish my book it is too short to be a novel? What if no one wants to read it? What if I can never find a publisher who will publish it? I really had to pray hard this morning and I repeated in my head “Satan, get behind me! Get away from me!” over and over again. During my bible study time this morning, I, of course, felt led to look this scripture up. Luke 4:8 says “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Jesus used these words to tell the devil to leave him alone while he was tempted in the wilderness. If Jesus used these exact words, by gosh, they must be extremely powerful! I feel humbled by the fact that I, too, can use these commands to get the devil to leave me alone. And, it works! I have said these words many times before in times of doubt, trouble, grouchiness, etc. and every time I utter them, the devil flees from me. Thank you, Jesus, for giving me a good example to follow!
This morning was no exception. I told the devil to get away from me and prayed that God would give me strength to put doubtful thoughts aside. I sat down at my computer and the words just flowed out. Thank you, Lord, for once again helping me carry out your plan for me.
I trust God! I serve him and him only. The devil has no power over me when I draw close to the Lord. God is far more powerful than Satan, and calling on Jesus’ name when Satan is besieging me is instantly effective. The devil cannot possibly stand before the power of God! How comforting that I have a tool to fight Satan, provided by God and readily available, as simple as uttering Jesus’ name and telling Satan to get behind me!
